6 Must-Have Items For A Boat Day With Kids

Business Blog

A day on the water can be relaxing yet packed with adventure at the same time. However, to ensure your family gets the most from a boating day — you've got to pack wisely. Learn some of the must-have items you need to bring along for an awesome boating adventure.

1. Safety Gear

Bring along plenty of safety gear for the entire family. Even if your child can swim, swimming in a lake is much different from swimming in a backyard pool. Safety gear gives you confidence that your child is okay. If you rent the boat from a rental company, they will likely supply you with the equipment you need.

2. Sunscreen

Apply sunscreen to everyone before you head out for the day and bring extra for future applications. On a boating day, you will spend a great deal of your time directly in the path of the sun, even if you're on a covered boat like a pontoon. Sunscreen can minimize irritation and the risk of sunburn.

3. Outdoor-Friendly Snacks

Ensure all the snacks you pack are outdoor friendly. Chocolate, gummy candy, and marshmallows seem like excellent boat day snacks. However, all these items will melt when they're left out in the sun all day. If you must bring these food items along, ensure you pack them inside a cooler.

4. Water Toys

If your children will exit the boat at any point during the day, you can add to the fun of the experience with some water toys. A small slide and innertube are just some of the toys you can bring along. If you have several children, you might also want to bring some floating toys.

5. Fishing Poles

A day on the water without fishing isn't very exciting at all. Bring along some poles sized for every member of the family so that each child can have their own fishing experience. Depending on where you take the boat, you might be able to do some net fishing. Make sure you don't forget the bait.

6. Motion Sickness Medicine

If your children have never been on a boat before, make sure you pack some motion sickness medication. Some people have no problem on the water, while some people may feel nauseous and lightheaded from the experience. Medication can help settle their stomach and keep the child comfortable throughout the day.

Pack for a day of adventure and fun to ensure your family has a once in a lifetime experience. For more information on pontoon rentals, contact your local boat rental service.
