Proofread!

Poor grammar and spelling mistakes show a lack of professionalism that you may bring into the work place. 59% of employers will reject a candidate because of spelling and grammar mistakes, so proofread! It's also a good idea to ask a friend to look over your resume, too.  

Keep it simple and short

Employers are busy, and they see a lot of resumes. That's why most professionals suggest keeping your resume to a single page to make it easy for your future employer to read quickly. If you need help consolidating your resume, limit it to the most relevant items to the specific job you want. Furthermore, keep your resume simple. 40% of employers don't appreciate overly stylized resumes with elaborate boarders, images, and unnecessary fonts. A tiny bit of flair is appropriate, but keep it to a minimum! 

Update regularly

Many people forget to update their information on their resume. A employer needs current information. Also, updates could include accomplishments that would attract a potential employer! 

Be detailed

Don't simply write general statements—give specifics! Instead of saying, "I answered calls in a fast  paced setting", write "I answered over 100 calls a day". The more specific you are, the better picture your potential employer has of your skills. They can use this information to better picture you in the role that they need to fill. 

Research yourself

Employers will research your online presence. Despite the available information online, only 31% of job seekers look up their own name to see what might be accessible to employers. Take preemptive action to see what a potential employer might find out about you. Take action to avoid problems by carefully choosing social media posts before they become a problem.

Utilize social media

Social media is a great way to share dinners and vacations, but it's also a great way to make business connections. Use LinkedIn, Facebook, and other social media sites to reach out to potential employers.
